All Natural Dry Shampoo - 3 Ingredients!
I don't know about you, but dry shampoo is a staple in my routine. Not only do I love it for the purpose of cleaning up my greasy hair when needed, it also adds texture when I'm lacking volume.
It's great, we all know it. I don't need to convince you of that. BUT- do you know what is IN your dry shampoo? If you did, I bet you would think twice before using store bought dry shampoo on the daily. Let me fill you in.
Benzene: A cancer causing carcinogen. The most publicized chemical on the list, especially when referring to dry shampoo. Many of the most popular dry shampoos were recalled for having this in them last year (Dove, Not Your Mothers, Batiste, to name a few). Benzene is created from volcanos, forest fires, and a component of crude oil. That right there doesn't sound like something I'd want to be putting directly on my scalp and inhaling daily. You can also be exposed from cigarette smoke, and we all know the risks of that.
The result of being exposed to benzene? Leukemia and other blood disorders. Read more here: Cancer.gov
Aluminum: A heavy metal that is found to be toxic to the body. Heavy metal poisoning can cause many side effects such as headaches and nausea, to more serious issues such as infertility.
LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas): This is made up of Butane, Propane, and Isobutane. PROPANE!? These often times aren't listed in the ingredients list because they are technically part of the makeup of the aerosol spray can. Scary, right?
The result of being exposed to LPG? Headaches, Organ Damage, Respiratory issues, and Hormone/Endocrine Disrupters which is a whole host of other problems to come.
Terrible, right? Not to mention the environmental effect these aerosol cans have.
The good news is I have a fantastic DIY dry shampoo recipe I've been using for over a year now that works like magic and is good for you, and the environment! Even better? It costs less than $10 for a year+ supply, and I'm betting you have most of these ingredients in your pantry right now.
